FMI’s New Appointments
Press Release

FMI have appointed a new MD effective from 1 August 2007. Lucia Kujawa, a former FMI Director will be taking the reins from Simon Cordial, who has been MD at FMI for the past 12 years. Simon will remain on the Board of Directors and continues as a major shareholder in the company.

Lucia has been a shareholder and Director with FMI since its inception in 1995. After recently completing her MBA through the University of Henley, London, Lucia is looking forward to getting her hands dirty in the day to day management of FMI. Lucia also holds Business Science Honours and Chartered Management Accountant degrees and brings with her over 15 years experience from the insurance industry. To balance her academic credentials Lucia is an avid sports woman and has competed in IRONMAN for the past 2 years, finishing 8th in her age group this year. Lucia considers herself as an advocate of change and views a business’s ability to adapt as an increasingly important strategic advantage in today’s industry.

Also joining the Board of Directors as of 1 August 2007, is Brad Toerien. Brad has developed FMI’s Risk and Actuarial department over the past four years in which time he has embedded a product development cycle that focuses on customer needs and market trends. Brad has an Actuarial Science degree and is a member of the Actuarial Society of Southern Africa. As a Director, Brad aims to ensure that FMI positions itself as a leading product provider of income protection benefits. These two appointments in conjunction with the completion of a number of internal projects aimed at streamlining the Broker Distribution network, mark a new era for the company.

“My goal for FMI in the short to medium term is to implement the work that has been conducted internally and to institute a more customer focused environment, where strategic partnerships are maximized and both our Brokers and policyholders are provided with cutting edge income protection products, offered as part of a more holistic package. We understand that our unique claims philosophy supported by our underwriting process and client care and broker distribution service units are critical components in each transaction. Part of my implementation strategy will be enhancing this package and ultimately the product offered to our clients”, comments Lucia.
