Case C
Robert Scott was involved in a traumatic motor vehicle accident in December 2004, after a pedestrian threw a brick through the windscreen of his moving motor vehicle. Robert experienced minor physical injuries but didn’t realize the extent of damage done until March 2005 when he was diagnosed with frontal lobe damage. Having run two successful businesses and being the sole bread winner of a family of four, his diagnosis came as a painful realization for the family. Neuro-cognitive screening indicated that Robert was unable to work for more than 3-4 hours a day in order to allow his brain injury to heal.
After consulting their Brokers, the Scott family began claiming on their FMI Temporary Disability Policy. “The help FMI provided during this difficult time was extremely appreciated by our family. At this stage we were able to claim 50% of Robert’s salary which helped to remove some of the financial stress,” comments Mrs. Scott.
Unfortunately in November 2005, after further medical consultations, Robert was deemed unfit to work and booked off full time employment until the beginning of 2007. At this stage Robert’s business was suffering due to his absence and the family became dependant on their ability to claim 100% of his salary. Mrs. Scott notes, “The Policies we took out with FMI and the service we received from their staff has been a Godsend. Our payments have always been on schedule and the staff deal with us in a sensitive and professional manner. I would recommend income protection to anyone who runs their own business and in the event of an accident or illness, would no longer be able to work. Its policies like these that could save you and your family from financial ruin during a crisis.”
